“The start mode for the Net. TCP Port Sharing service must be set to Automatic before Setup can continue”

In order to install Exchange 2010 Client Access Server role installation on Windows 2008 R2 its one of the pre-requisite that you change the startup mode for Net. TCP Port Sharing service from manual to automatic otherwise you will see this error during Rediness Check.

“The start mode for the Net. TCP Port Sharing service must be set to Automatic before Setup can continue.”

Exchanage 2010 Error

Resolution:

Change startup mode of “Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service” from Manual to Auto by running this command in PowerShell.

Set-Service NetTcpPortSharing -StartupType Automatic

    Yes, this worked and my exchange server 2010 installation is proceeding fine, not sure why this is not documented in the technet site

    That worked perfectly, thanks! I wonder why the heck Microsoft didn’t just integrate this step directly into the installer, or at least provide instructions in the error message. Microsoft usability testing for the Exchange 2010 was pathetic.

    Agree, a little clearer description would have been nice. This can also be done by going to Services Management Console (services.msc) and changing the Startup type for Net.Tcp Port Sharing Service from Disabled to Automatic
